There are a few site-generated notifications, or automated notifications, that are sent automatically when an action triggers them on your site. For example, when you request an export, an automated notification is sent to your email when it's ready to download. Most of these notifications are enabled by default, but you can disable some of them.
There are ways to bypass some default triggers. For example, the Admin invited user to assume member notification is only sent if you toggle the Send email invite button On when adding that new member. That's why the description for the trigger says "optionally triggered".
Communication Area
Notifications are located in the Communication area of your site.
Go to Communication.
Click Notifications.
Here, you can see the names of the notifications, their triggers, who they're intended for, and their status!
How Notifications are Triggered
Some notifications cannot be disabled. Please see the table below for descriptions of the available notifications and which ones can and cannot be disabled.

Admin invitation to opportunity | This notification is triggered when an admin invites a member to an opportunity.
Note: This notification cannot be disabled. |
Admin invited user to assume member | This notification is triggered when an admin adds a new member with a valid email address.

Admin invited user to join as admin | This notification is triggered when an admin invites a user to join the site as an admin.
Note: This notification cannot be disabled. |
Admin registered member to shift | This notification is triggered when an admin registers a member for a shift.
Note: This notification cannot be disabled. |
Export download ready | This is triggered when a requested export is ready to download.
Note: This notification cannot be disabled. |
Shift registration confirmation | This notification is triggered when a member registers for a shift. You can disable this notification by turning the button Off under the Status column.

Shift registration reminder | This notification sends a registration reminder to members the day before their shift is scheduled. You can disable this notification by turning the button Off under the Status column. |
Shift registration removed by member | This notification is triggered when a member removes their registration for a shift.
You can disable this notification by turning the button Off under the Status column. |
User requested link to assume member | This is triggered when someone tries to join the site but a member with the same email already exists on the site.
Note: This notification cannot be disabled. |
