Are you looking to incorporate background checks into your volunteer Opportunities? Whether your roles involve handling sensitive information, working with vulnerable populations, or requiring delivery drivers with clean records to transport essential donations, background checks can help ensure your volunteers meet the qualifications for the Opportunities you offer on your site.
Enabling Background Checks
Ready to enable background checks? Contact us to have your site integrated with our secure, third-party background check provider—First Advantage. After you request background checks for your site, it's time to set up your account!
1. Go to Settings > Background checks.
2. Click Create an account with First Advantage.
This step is only available the first time you visit the background checks area in your site's Settings.
3. Once you've completed your account set up, you can return to the background checks area to manage those settings.
Background Check Settings
To manage your background check settings, go to Settings > Background checks. This area is only available once your site is integrated with First Advantage. From here, you can:
Automating Background Checks
You can choose to automatically approve all eligible background checks or automatically reject in-eligible background checks.
1. Toggle the button On beside Auto-approve all "eligible" background checks for any background checks that return with an "eligible" status.
2. Toggle the button On beside Auto-reject all "in-eligible" background checks for any background checks that return with an "ineligible" status.
You can disable either of these at any time by toggling the buttons off beside them.
Background Check Requirements
You can also opt to require a background check. This means that volunteers must have an "eligible" status before they can respond to an Opportunity you've assigned the background check to.
1. If you want to require background checks to respond, then select Background check is required to respond from the dropdown.
Select which Background check package this applies to.
2. If you don't want to require background checks to respond, then leave the selection on Not required.
Enabling Background Checks for Specific Opportunities
When creating volunteer Opportunities, you can opt to require background checks. You can enable or disable background checks for select volunteer Opportunities at any time.
1. Click on a day and time in your calendar to start creating a new volunteer Opportunity.
2. Toggle the button On beside Background check required.
3. Use the dropdown to select the background check package.
4. Finish creating your volunteer Opportunity and be sure to click Submit when you're done!
Requiring Background Checks on Existing Opportunities
You can edit a volunteer Opportunity to require background checks for it.
1. Click the volunteer Opportunity from your schedule.
2. Select the edit button.
3. Click Background check is required to respond on the Edit Opportunity page.
4. Select the background check package from the dropdown and click Submit to finish.
The Volunteer Perspective
When a volunteer goes to respond to your Opportunity, they are prompted to complete their background check. Here's what the process can look like to the volunteer:
