❖ Heads up! This article is only intended for Site Managers.

Your site offers powerful features to help boost volunteer engagement! Ready to share your Needs or Opportunities with your community? Here’s how to get started:

  1. Create an Agency or Program to post Needs or Opportunities.

  2. Create and share a Need or Opportunity with your volunteers.

  3. Manage and track volunteer hours to highlight the valuable contributions your volunteers and organization are making.

ℹ️ So you know: Some sites have language overrides in place. This means you might see Needs in place of Opportunities or Agencies in place of Programs.

Agencies/Programs are a way for volunteer Needs/Opportunities to be grouped and sorted on a site, kind of like buckets holding a variety of fruit!

For example, if your organization has an Agency or Program dedicated to a local soup kitchen, the Needs or Opportunities posted might include:

  • Come ladle soup at the Soup Kitchen!

  • Help restock the Soup Kitchen pantry!

  • Calling all soup-oisseurs to make nutritious and delicious soups for our Soup Kitchen!

  • Delivery driver shifts available Monday through Friday

Or, if you have an Agency or Program for a small nonprofit offering various community services, examples might include:

  • Stitch Bereavement Keepsakes

  • Back-to-school backpack event

  • Community cleanup at the Garden Center

Agencies or Programs can also be set up for task-based or location-based Needs or Opportunities, depending on the organization's purpose and mission.

Another way to think about Agencies or Programs and Needs or Opportunities is through this house metaphor:

In other words, your volunteer site is like a house that can “house” multiple Agencies or Programs. Each “room” in this house represents an individual Agency or Program, each with its own unique purpose. You fill each “room” with “stuff”—that is, the specific volunteer Needs or Opportunities related to that Agency or Program.
