❖ Heads up! This article is only intended for BoardConnect Candidates.
Once your profile is set up, you’re ready to start connecting with nonprofits. Begin by exploring the available Board Positions and sending a message directly from any opportunity that interests you.
You can also visit a nonprofit’s page to learn more about the organization, access their website, or express interest in joining their board. To help find the perfect match, use filters to search for nonprofits by name, location, or distance from your area.
Tracking Connections
After expressing interest in a board position, you can monitor your outreach and response status in the Messages menu. If the status shows "Responded," check your email for the nonprofit's reply. While the Messages menu allows you to track your interests, you’ll need to use your email to view full responses and continue the conversation.
What to do when a nonprofit contacts you
A nonprofit may reach out to you through your profile if they’re interested in connecting. When this happens, you’ll receive an email at the address you used to sign up on the site.
You can review communication statuses anytime in the Messages tab, but to reply to a nonprofit, you’ll need to respond via your personal email. Be sure to check your spam folder for emails with “BoardConnect” in the subject line and add them to your safe sender list.
To reply, use the "Reply to [Admin]" button. This form will share both your contact information and the organization’s contact information.
Do not use the email reply button in the notification email, as this will send your message to the site admin instead of the nonprofit and won’t record the message on the BoardConnect site.

Understand the expectations and responsibilities of board members.
Gain insight into the dynamics of the board by requesting to sit in on a meeting.
Meeting with a nonprofit gives you valuable firsthand knowledge and helps you determine whether the organization aligns with your goals and values before making a commitment.
