โ– Heads up! This article is only intended for Site Managers.

There are many ways to customize your site to best fit your volunteer management process. This includes how you want the landing page to be organized for volunteers and more.

โ„น๏ธSo you know: Some sites have language overrides in place. You may see Needs in place of Opportunities, Agencies in place of Programs, or Prerequisites in place of Qualifications.

Managing Volunteer Settings

To get started, navigate to Settings > Main Settings > Volunteers. Here you can set the main User Landing Page, how the landing page is organized, the value of a volunteer hour, and more!

User Landing Page Settings

Select where you want users to land when logging into your site. Please note that selections available in the dropdown vary by product type. Be sure to click Update Settings to save any changes you make.

The User View

Select how you want items on the landing page to be displayed to users. Items, like Needs or Opportunities, and Agencies or Programs can be displayed in a Grid, List, Calendar, or Map.

Set the Value of a Volunteer Hour

The default Value of a Volunteer Hour is determined by the state you have selected in your site's settings and the corresponding rate for that state listed at https://www.independentsector.org/volunteer_time. You can override this with your own value under Settings > Main Settings > Volunteers.

  • Be sure to enter a rate that best first your community by adding a number with a decimal and two digits after the decimal (e.g., 21.00)

  • If this field is left blank, then the default value will be used

  • This value appears on the volunteer resume

Require Emails for Team Registrations

You can require that all team responses include an email address when registering as a team. Toggle On to make this a requirement, or Off to disable it.

  • When this is toggled Off, volunteers only have to provide the number of people on the team. This makes it easier for team leaders to sign up as a team since they aren't required to include email addresses for each team member.

  • When this is toggled Off, team leaders can select reserved slots for team members who will join later.

    • This feature is disabled when this is toggled On.

Individual, Anonymous, and Plus-One Hours

You can allow different hour types to be submitted on your site. Just toggle the button On or Off beside the hours you want to allow:

Individual Volunteer Hours

Individual hours are hours volunteers complete without a Need or Opportunity response. This means volunteers can submit hours without responding to a Need or Opportunity first.

Require Contact Emails for Individual Hours

If you allow Individual Hours, you can require that volunteers submit the name and email address of someone who can verify those hours.

Anonymous Hours

This hour type is only available to Center Site Managers. Anonymous hours are hours submitted by Agency Managers on behalf of volunteers who do not have an account on the site.

Plus-one Hours

Plus-one hours are hours volunteers with an account submit on behalf of friends or family who volunteered with them, who do not have accounts. Site Managers, Advanced Program Managers, and Agency Managers can submit these on behalf of volunteers.

Additional Volunteer Settings

Additional settings under the Volunteers section, include:

  • Show Pop-up After Action: Toggle this On to have a pop-up appear when a user responds to a Need or Opportunity, prompting them to create a calendar event

    • The pop-up also offers the option to share the Need or Opportunity listing on social media

    • If you have donations enabled on your site, it will also include a Donate button

  • Agency or Program Contact Information: Here you can opt to display or hide Agency or Program contact information on the Agency or Program profile page

    • Contact information includes the name of a point of contact, email, phone, and fax number

    • Some Site Managers opt to hide this information so volunteers respond to their Needs or Opportunities through the site instead of reaching out to the Program directly

      • This makes it easier to track your site's volunteerism
