Intro to the Enhancements
In this release, we focused on the enhancements that impact ALL Galaxy Digital client sites and include:
an updated Galaxy Digital Privacy Policy
email opt-in/opt-out options
the ability for users to view/export all their personal data stored on Galaxy Digital's servers
the ability for users to make their data anonymous when they deactivate their account.
These enhancements were designed to comply with the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the strictest data privacy protection regulation in place today. This functionality will also ensure compliance with Canada’s Protection of Personal Information and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). The US does not have federal-level regulations and is regulated at a state-by-state level. To date, the following US states have implemented strict data privacy regulations with ~30 states pending: California, Colorado, and Virginia.
Note: If you have any questions about the GDPR or GDPR+ modules, please contact us.
Adjusting a user’s email preference
Site managers cannot adjust a user’s email preferences without assuming the user’s role. This is to ensure that users are primarily the ones managing their email preferences, but site managers can still make those changes on behalf of the users as needed. The option to opt-in/out is no longer visible from the Site Manager’s view of the User Settings unless they assume the user’s role.
Affirmative privacy policy acceptance
When you register for a site, you will be required to affirmatively accept Galaxy Digital’s Privacy Policy and update your communication preferences.
Anonymize deactivated accounts
When a user deactivates their accounts in the volunteer’s Edit Profile area, an option to anonymize appears. When a user anonymizes their Personal Identifiable Information (PII), site reports will not show their first name, last name, and email address. Reports for hours and responses management will show [inactive/anonymized] in place of the user’s PII.
Country selector
You will now see the country selector wherever a zip code field appears, including under Needs, Agencies, Create Agency Form, etc.
Download all account data button
You will now see an Export My Data button in the volunteer’s Edit Profile area.
Privacy policy
A site’s privacy policy will no longer appear on the registration form. You can still access your personal privacy policy through Custom Pages which can be linked in the site footer. This new feature is under Site Settings > Site Information > Terms link in site footer.
System emails and messages
In your account’s Edit Profile area, you will see the option to opt-in/out to receive system emails and messages. Your original selection is kept and respected in the database; however, due to the new affirmative opt-in/out, this area will be cleared from your profile. You can choose to opt-in/out again if you wish.

We’ve made some exciting updates to Spotlights, Users, Needs, and the Agency Profile page! Here, we’ll cover the changes we’ve made that impact all Get Connected clients.
New features and updates
New Spotlight interface
Want to rearrange the Spotlights you’ve created for your site? You can now drag and drop the Spotlights you’ve made to reorder them—and they’ll auto-save in that order. This is a great way to highlight new programs, events, or any exciting news that you want to showcase on your site!
Linked Spotlights
We’ve also updated the way users interact with your Spotlights! Now if your Spotlights include a URL, they’ll open in a new window by default when a user clicks on them.
Date Last Updated in Users table
We know that volunteer engagement is important to your site! So, we’ve added a new column to the Users table under Volunteerism > Users. You can now view the date that a user’s profile was last updated. This is great if you want to sort your volunteers by how recently they’ve updated their profiles or get a glance at who’s actively engaging with your site.
Filter Needs by Geolocation
We’ve added a new feature that allows Needs to be filtered by the user’s geolocation. This new feature lets you give volunteers the ability to share their browser’s location which makes it easier to locate Needs near them! You can toggle this feature On or Off from the Site Settings > Main Settings > Needs and select the default distance from the user’s location:
This will filter Needs within that selected default distance from the user’s location.
Volunteer Perspective
When the Filter Needs by User Geolocation feature is turned On, volunteers are prompted to share their browser’s location when they visit the site’s Needs page:
Volunteers can edit or remove the filter by clicking on it:
Agency Links
We’ve also added a direct agency link on the Agency Profile page for all agencies. This includes agencies that aren’t using a custom agency link. This update helps agency managers and site managers find the link to their agency profile page faster so they can then share it with their community, newsletter, or social media! This feature is found in Volunteerism > Agencies > Agency Profile > Basic Information:
