❖ Heads up! This article is only intended for Site Managers.

Cloning Needs or Opportunities can save you time by letting you copy existing ones instead of starting over. It’s especially helpful when:

  • The same Need or Opportunity happens at different locations (like a Reading Buddies event at several libraries).

  • You want to update an expired or inactive Need or Opportunity.

  • You want to keep the details and shifts of an Opportunity but change things like the schedule type (e.g., Flexible to Recurring Shifts).

Cloning lets you adjust the copy to fit your needs without redoing everything from scratch. Sometimes, starting fresh is better than cloning—it depends on what works best for you. But if you’re reusing details or making small changes, cloning can save a lot of effort.

ℹ️So you know: Some sites have language overrides. This means you may see Needs instead of Opportunities, Agencies instead of Programs, or Prerequisites instead of Qualifications. You may also see different menu options than the ones in the provided examples since all sites are set up differently.

How to Clone Needs or Opportunities

1. Go to Volunteerism > Needs or Opportunities.

2. Select the Need/Opportunity Title on the Manage Needs/Opportunities page.

3. Scroll to the bottom of the Update Need/Opportunity form. The gray Clone button is right beside the red Deactivate button at the bottom of the form.

4. Click Clone Need or Opportunity.

A warning pops up asking you to confirm your selection. When you click Yes, a Create Need/Opportunity page appears with the title of the one you cloned along with some of the original details—like the description, age limits, selected interests, etc. The copy has (copy) in the title.

If you're cloning a Need or Opportunity that occurs at multiple locations, you could remove (copy) and add the location to specify—e.g.: Soup Kitchen Crew—N. Broadway.

5. Make any necessary changes to the new Need or Opportunity.

6. When you're ready, click Create Need/Opportunity.
