❖ Heads up! This article is only intended for Sustain Site Managers.
By the end of this article, you will be able to:
Decide whether to use a third-party background check provider with Prerequisites
Configure a Prerequisite that supports manual background check review
Add a content link to guide volunteers to your external provider.
Overview
While we’re happy to connect you with supported third-party background check providers, you may already have an established relationship with another provider. If so, you can continue using that provider by setting up Prerequisites that require manual review and approval.
Working with Third-Party Providers
You can set up Prerequisites that require manual review and approval before volunteers can respond to a Need or Opportunity. These Prerequisites prevent volunteers from responding until you've used your third-party system to verify who is approved and who isn't.
Once you've reviewed the results of those background checks, you can return to your site's Prerequisites > Approval area to update their status. Here are a couple of options you can use:
Set up a File Upload Qualification Type if you want volunteers to submit a document or certificate when completing the Prerequisite.
Select a blank or selected answer if you don’t need volunteers to upload a document when responding.
Most third-party background check Prerequisites will need a link to the third-party provider. You can easily do this using the Add Content Link option with all Prerequisite types like File Upload or Dropdown.
How to Set Up a Third-Party Background Check Prerequisite
When setting up a third-party background check, you have the flexibility to choose any Prerequisite type. Here’s an example where we’ve set it up as a File Upload type, which requires volunteers to upload a document to complete the Prerequisite. Common documentation includes:
A screenshot confirming the completion of the background check with the third-party provider
A certificate
Any additional required documents, such as licenses, driver's licenses, completed forms, etc.
By setting up these features, you can streamline your process while keeping everything organized and efficient!
Here is one suggestion for setting up your Prerequisite for background checks:
How to Add a Content Link
Almost all background check Prerequisites through a third-party service require a content link. To set this up:
Toggle the Add Content Link button to On.
Copy a link to the third-party background check provider and paste it into the Link URL field.
You can include actionable text or the title of the service provider in the Link Text field—for example, Click here to complete your background check or 123 Background Checker. This creates a clickable link that directs them to your third-party provider.
The Volunteer Perspective
Here is how the Prerequisite looks to volunteers:
