❖ Heads up! This article is only intended for Site Managers.

By the end of this article, you will be able to:

  • Understand what private Needs or Opportunities are

  • Create private Needs or Opportunities

  • Share private Needs or Opportunities using links or User Groups

  • Manage privacy in bulk

Private Needs or Opportunities are only visible to volunteers who have been granted access. Use private Opportunities when you want to restrict access to a specific group of volunteers, such as for sensitive roles or invite-only programs.

Private Needs or Opportunities can be shared in two ways:

  • Unique link shared directly with a volunteer

  • Assigned User Group, where only members of the group can access and respond

When a volunteer has access to a private Need or Opportunity, it appears with a lock icon.

When to Use Private Needs or Opportunities

Private Needs or Opportunities are useful when you want to control access, such as:

  • Court-mandated opportunities

  • Specialized roles requiring specific approval

  • Invite-only or internal volunteer programs

Note: As a Site Manager, you can always view private Needs or Opportunities on the front end, even if you are not part of the User Group or Initiative.

Sharing Private Needs or Opportunities

To share private Needs, just copy the Need or Opportunity Link from the Update Need or Opportunity page! You can then share this link in newsletters, emails, etc.!

Keep in mind that once you share the link with a volunteer, they can share it too. Be sure to let them know if you don't want them to share the link with anyone else. You can also assign the private Need or Opportunity to a user group.
