Understand the different waiver types available
Know when to use Adults and Minors, Adult Only, or Minor Only waivers
Attach the correct waiver type to a Qualification for each Need
Overview
Waivers help ensure volunteers meet your Qualification requirements for each Need. You can require waivers from adults only, minors only, or both. Selecting the right waiver type helps you manage risk while ensuring volunteers can complete requirements without confusion.
Recommended Option: Adults and Minors
In most cases, we recommend using the Adults and Minors waiver type. This option is ideal when both adults and minors may participate in the same Need.
Attach this waiver type to a Qualification
Confirms that all volunteers sign the correct waiver before responding
How It Works
When using the Adults and Minors waiver option:
Volunteers enter their birthdate before signing
The system automatically determines which waiver to present
Minors (ages 13–17):
See the Minor Waiver you uploaded
Are prompted to provide a parent or guardian’s name and email
A co-signature request is sent to the parent or guardian
Adults (18 and older):
Are shown the Adult Waiver
Qualification is completed once the waiver is signed
Depending on your configuration, waiver submissions may require manual approval before volunteers can respond to Needs.
Other Waiver Types
You may also choose Adult Only or Minor Only waiver types. Use these options carefully.
What to keep in mind:
Adult Only: Minors cannot complete the Qualification and cannot sign up
Minor Only: Adults bypass the waiver and see a “No waiver needed” message in their Qualification response
Using Adults and Minors prevents gaps in waiver coverage and ensures consistent compliance.
How to Choose
While Adults and Minors is appropriate for most scenarios, these cases may warrant a different option:
Minor Only: Programs designed exclusively for ages 13–17
Adult Only: Needs involving sensitive content or legal age restrictions
Align your waiver choice with your program structure to balance compliance, liability, and volunteer ease of use.
