Heads up! This article is only intended for Center Site Managers.

By the end of this article, you will be able to:

  • Understand how waivers work from a volunteer’s perspective

  • Explain the adult and minor waiver process step by step

  • Help volunteers resolve common waiver issues

Please note: You may see Opportunity in place of Need or Program in place of Agency, as some sites have active language overrides.

Overview

After setting up Qualifications and waivers, understanding the volunteer experience helps you provide better support and faster resolution when questions arise.

Waivers confirm that volunteers are prepared for the work involved—whether assisting with events, driving vehicles, or supporting youth programs—while helping manage organizational risk.

How Waivers Work for Volunteers

When a waiver is attached to a Qualification, volunteers must complete it before their response is accepted.

  • The system determines which waiver to show based on date of birth

  • Minor waivers can require parent or guardian co-signatures

  • All signing is completed electronically

Signing an Adult Waiver

Here’s what adult volunteers see:

  1. Select Respond on a Need.

  2. The Submit Qualifications screen opens.

  3. Select Click to sign next to the waiver.

  4. Enter a date of birth if prompted and select Submit Date of Birth.

  5. Review the waiver and select Continue.

  6. Complete all required fields and select Complete Signing.

Status after signing:

  • Auto-approved waivers show Qualified immediately

  • Manually approved waivers remain Pending until reviewed

Volunteers return to the Submit Qualifications screen to finish any remaining items.

Signing a Waiver as a Minor

Minors may be required to have a parent or guardian co-sign the waiver.

Important details:

  • No parent or guardian account is required

  • Signature requests are sent by email

Steps for minors:

  1. Select Respond on a Need.

  2. Open the waiver from the Submit Qualifications screen.

  3. Enter date of birth if prompted.

  4. Enter parent or guardian contact information.

  5. Review the waiver and select Continue.

  6. Sign required fields and select Complete Signing.

After signing, an automated email is sent to the parent or guardian.

Steps for parents or guardians:

  1. Open the email titled “Please Sign This Waiver For .”

  2. Select the link and choose Continue.

  3. Review and eSign the waiver.

  4. Select Complete Signing and confirm.

Once complete, the Qualification is updated based on your approval settings.

Resending a Minor Waiver Email

Volunteers can resend a parent or guardian signature request at any time.

  1. Open the volunteer profile.

  2. Select Qualifications.

  3. Find the waiver and select Resend Email.

  4. Update contact information if needed.

  5. Select Submit Information.

Reminder: Parent or guardian emails may be filtered to spam.
