❖ Heads up! This article is only intended for Site Managers.

By the end of this article, you will be able to:

  • Understand how Dollars for Doers programs work

  • Use the Favorite Agency/Program field to support corporate volunteer grant programs

  • Run and export the Hours by Favorite Agency/Program report

  • Distinguish between “favorites” and “fanned” Agencies

What is Dollars for Doers?

Dollars for Doers—also known as Volunteer Grants, Dollar for Hour, or Grants for Time—are corporate programs that donate money to nonprofits based on employee volunteer hours.

Examples include:

  • $1 donated per volunteer hour

  • $10, $25, or more per hour, depending on the company

Your site makes participation easy: employees can discover volunteer Opportunities, log their hours, and support grants for the nonprofits they care about.

These programs encourage volunteerism and highlight a company’s commitment to community impact.

What is a Favorite Agency or Program?

Users can select a Favorite Agency or Program during registration or later in their profile settings. This indicates the nonprofit they want their Dollars for Doers contributions directed toward.

Key points:

  • Volunteers can select one favorite Agency/Program.

  • This field is optional but highly useful for corporate volunteer programs.

  • The term “Favorite” can be overridden. For example:

    • Dollars for Doers Agency

    • Volunteer Grant Agency

    • Grants for Time Program

This makes the purpose clearer for your community partners and volunteers.

Hours By Favorite Agency/Program Report

The Hours by Favorite Agency/Program report is built specifically for Dollars for Doers–type programs.

This report shows:

  • All volunteers with approved hours in a selected date range

  • The volunteer’s chosen favorite Agency/Program

  • The total hours worked for that specific Agency/Program

Example:
If a volunteer logged 50 hours across several nonprofits but only 10 hours for their favorite Agency, the report displays 10 hours, because that is the amount eligible for grant consideration.

You can export this report using the Export icon above the table.

Fanned Agencies (Center Sites Only)

Fanning an Agency allows a volunteer to “follow” that Agency online. When fanned:

  • Volunteers receive notifications for newly posted Needs or events

  • The agency gains visibility among supporters

Important distinction:

  • Favoriting = selecting a nonprofit to support through Dollars for Doers

  • Fanning = subscribing to updates from an Agency

Because these features serve different purposes, organizations often override the term Favorite Agency to something more specific—such as Dollars for Doers Agency—to reduce confusion.
