How volunteers download and use the Causer App

Finding and responding to volunteer Needs or Opportunities can be accomplished right from your phone or tablet with the Causer app!

Downloading the App

First, you need to download the app from your phone or tablet's app store. Open up your app store and search Causer. You can also scan these QR codes for your specific device to download the app now!

I Have an Account

If you've already registered on an organization's site, you can use the email address you used to sign up to log in to the app. After logging in, you're taken to your volunteer dashboard, where you can see your volunteer impact or search for volunteer Needs or Opportunities!

You may see some pop-ups depending on what device you're using. These can include a Background Location Request pop-up, which helps the app find volunteer Needs or Opportunities near you.

Another pop-up you might encounter is a Push Notification Request. Turning this on allows you to receive important notifications from the app about your scheduled volunteer Needs or Opportunities, or other updates from the organization.

When you have the Background Location and Push Notification enabled, a notification pops up for you to check into a Need or Opportunity when you're close to the listed address for it. Another notification pops up for you to check out when you leave that address.

I Don't Have an Account

If you haven't registered on an organization's site, then you'll need to create an account on the app and select a site to register to.

  1. Download the app.

  2. Click SSO Login.

  3. Click Create an Account.

  4. Fill out the form and click Create Account.

  5. Click Join an Organization.

  6. Search and select from a list of available organizations.

  7. Click Join this site.

  8. They can now navigate the app from their profile, join additional organizations, and start looking for available volunteer opportunities near them.

Finding Needs or Opportunities with the App

To find volunteer opportunities, select the magnifying glass icon from your navigation. From there, you can see a list, map, or calendar view of current and upcoming volunteer opportunities.

Responding to Needs or Opportunities in the App

  1. Once you've found an opportunity, select it and click Respond.

  2. Select the shift and complete any additional requirements, then click Submit Response.

Unregistering From Needs or Opportunities with the App

  1. Go to My Schedule.

  2. Select the shift to unregister for.

  3. Click Unregister.

Checking Your Schedule in the App

  1. Go to My Schedule.

  2. Select dates on the calendar or click on any listed opportunities for more details.

Checking In or Out on the App

To check in or out for a Need or Opportunity, go to My Schedule, and the listed opportunity will have a check-in button available when it's within the scheduled time for that shift.

The button says It's not time to check in yet if it isn't within the scheduled shift window:

A Check Out button is available after you've checked in.

Adding Hours in the App

  1. Go to My Hours.

  2. Click Add Hours.

  3. Fill out all required fields.

  4. Follow the prompts to submit those hours.
